From the vibrant capital city of Lisbon to the World Heritage city of Evora and the vineyards of the Alentejo region, this trip promises to leave you wondering how such a small country can offer so much.

The Itinerary

This trip starts in one of Europe’s most exciting cities, Lisbon, where we will eat, walk, ship, and repeat. Then we go to the World Heritage city of Évora to learn about its history, and then it’s time to imbibe in the delicious wine of the Alentejo region. We will then visit the 1000-year-old village of Marvão.

Vineyard picnics, castles, monasteries, fortresses, and walled cities are mixed in between.

This trip is for anyone who likes to eat, drink, or learn about history.

This trip features the cities of Lisbon, Evora, Elvas & Marvão. In addition, there are several cultural and historical stops within those areas, including:

  • Various stops in Lisbon, such as St George Castel, Santa Clara Market, multiple squares & several cool Lisbon neighborhoods.
  • UNESCO city of Evora and its national palace and Roman temple.
  • Multiple vineyards of the Alentejo region
  • Multiple palaces, monasteries, and fortresses in the region.
  • Boat ride on Lake Alqueva

With a history as long as Portugal’s, it offers a wide array of food. Here are some things you may encounter on this trip: 

  • Bacalhau: This codfish is a staple in Portuguese cuisine, prepared in countless ways. 
  • Pastel de Nata: These custard tarts, often enjoyed with a sprinkle of cinnamon, are a Portuguese icon. Their flaky pastry and creamy filling make them a must-try.
  • Petiscos: Portuguese tapas, known as “petiscos,” offer a variety of small dishes to share. From grilled sardines to chorizo sausages and octopus salad, there’s something to suit every palate.
  • Seafood: Portugal is a coastal country with a wealth of fresh seafood. The options are endless, from grilled sardines and clams to octopus and squid.
  • Tinned Fish: Multiple shops are selling a variety of Portuguese tinned fish.
  • Wine: It goes without saying there will be plenty of this. Anyone curious about the wines of the Alentejo region should read this.

Antonio - Your Guide

Antonio has been working in the Portuguese Hospitality and Event Industry since 2016. He was born in Lisbon and has lived in different parts of the country throughout his life, acquiring a good knowledge of its culture, heritage. His background is law. His native language is Portuguese, but he also speaks Spainsh, English and French. He has you covered linguistically in Portugal!

This trip costs $3495 for each guest sharing a room. $600 supplement is charged for guests who want a single room. 

Deposit Requirement: With each booking request, a $750 deposit is required immediately. A booking cannot be guaranteed without a deposit.

Deposits can be made by PayPal, Venmo, or Zelle

Trip Costs: This trip must be paid in full at least 3 months before the start date. If you book within this time, the total balance is due. If trip fees are not paid within this time frame, trip deposits will be forfeited.

Refund Policy:  All reservations will incur a 10% non-refundable fee per person. This trip is only 50% refundable if the request is made within 3 months of departure. If a cancellation request is made after, no refund will be issued. This is due to the strict booking policies for hotels & transportation.

Tour Cancellations: We reserve the right to cancel any trip for any reason and will notify each guest as soon as possible. In such an event, all deposits and monies paid will be refunded 100%. 

These policies are strictly enforced due to logistical partners in-country and reservations made with local hotels and providers.

Yes, bookings received before December 1, 2024, will receive $250 off.

A $750 deposit is required to secure your spot. Full balance is required 3 months prior to the trip.

This trip is a partnership between NC Wine Gals Travel (Megan Riley) and Travel with Antonio (Antonio Alves Moreira). 

NC Wine Gal Travel will handle all pre-booking questions and payments, and Travel with An

tonio will handle all in-country logistics/guiding.

You are staying in 4 star Portugueser accommodations.

We will spend a few days in Lisbon with minimal driving and venture out of the city to the Alentejo wine region and the towns of Evore, Marvao, and Elvas. There will be no more than a couple of hours a day of driving.

Yes. There are free afternoons and evenings to enjoy. Also, morning activities and visits will not start before 10.30 am, which may also give some R&R time.

No. You can pay an extra fee ($600) to have an individual room.

Flights should be made into & out of Lisbon airport.

We recommend buying a wine suitcase or bringing wine sleeves and an extra suitcase.

For all guests flying into Lisbon, we will provide airport pickup and drop-off.

For anyone arriving earlier or leaving later, you will have to arrange your own transportation. We are happy to assist you with this if needed.

 

Yes, travel insurance is required. We recommend World Nomads for this trip.

A policy for an American traveling to Portugal for 8 days will cost around $100.
