NCWG Travels to Iceland
It seems kinda strange to do international trips that don't involve wine but Iceland respresents a special place in our hearts. It's the first country we started doing small group trips and to date, we have done 9 guided tours here. Join us in 2024 as we see one of the most beautiful countries in the world.
Trolls, Fairies & 24 Hours of Light...
Explore the land of trolls and fairies, where over 50% of the population still believes in them. This is a 10-day trip designed to give the explorer a great primer on the country. The trip will happen over Summer Solstice and we will take full advantage of 24 hours of light with a ton of excursions at night including hiking a volcano.
This trip will feature the best of Iceland’s urban landscapes as well as its natural ones. From days in Reykjavik exploring its culture & food scene to ones hiking steaming valleys and basalt waterfalls, this trip will cross off many of your bucket list items. This trip is for active explorers who want to understand more about this country and who may possibly come back on their own in the future.

THE ITINERARY
This trip will circumnavigate the entire island of Iceland. We land in Reykjavik and head east along the ring road through the towns of Selfoss, Vik, and Höfn before hitting the Eastern fjords and Lake Myvatn, Akureyri, and Husavik.

Reykjavik
The city is one of my favorite’s in Europe and is so incredibly easy to navigate. The city has a beautiful glass concert hall on the harbor, hundreds of restaurants, Nordic-inspired shops, and lots of places to buy Icelandic-designed clothing & gifts. One suggested site is the Hallgrimskirkja church, famous for its spectacular views of the city and bay (pictured).

Southern Iceland
Southern Iceland is so full of waterfalls, natural wonders, that you could spend 5 days and never run out of things to see and do. On this trip, we briefly pass by a number of these sights including: Fjaðrárgljúfur, Skógafoss, Seljalandsfoss, Seljavallalaug swimming pool (pictured), Diamond beach and Eyjafjallajökull volcano. These are just some of the stopping points of this part of the trip.

Along the Ring Road
The ring road is Iceland's national highway and full of spectacular sights. We will spend countless hours on this road on our way to the North. Be prepared for sheep, horses, small Icelandic towns and once we pass the town of Vik, crowds gets lower and we start to experience real Iceland.

East Iceland
Further east along the Ring Road, we hit the majesty of eastern Iceland and its fjords and rocky sea cliffs. Less populated than the South and North, the east is a real slice of Icelandic life. One highlight is spending the night in the only town where the signs are in both Icelandic and French.

North Iceland
North Iceland is strewn with basalt canyons, steaming valleys and incredible waterfalls. The most iconic place in the north is Lake Myvatn. In this small area, we will go on volcano hikes, visit lava caves, and a large geothermal field with boiling mud pots and steam vents (pictured). Also included in the north are the towns of Husavik and Akureyri.

We are omitting the Blue Lagoon in order to go to better and less crowded thermal pools. Personally, we have been to the BL more than 10 times and it’s getting too crowded and overpriced for the experience. There are so so many other cooler thermal pools we would like to share with you.
Of course, anyone who wants to go can still do so. There will be time built into our schedule to allow you to visit.
Yes, we love thermal pools so they are built into the itinerary when convenient.
